The Way Out Bridge Housing Center helps deliver independence to a young life

Jul 31, 2023

Sick and tired of his life on the streets, Joe entered the doors of The Salvation Army’s The Way Out Bridge Housing Center in Spokane ready to reclaim his life!

It was during this time that Joe felt he was just existing and living a lost life.  It was time for a change.

“I had a conversation with God and said ‘God, I’m done. I’m tired. Either take this desire for drugs and alcohol away from me or take me home!’”

During that conversation, Joe listened with his heart and felt the Holy Spirit move.

Soon after, he arrived at The Way Out Center, worked with the staff, and took advantage of the services offered through this unique program which holds adults accountable for exiting homelessness.  The Way Out Center is a referral-based, service-intensive program that helps up to 60 adults at any one time make the transition from homelessness to affordable permanent housing.

Through an answer to prayer, Joe’s desire to change his life, and The Way Out Center’s guidance and structure, this young man has been substance-free for 18 months!

Joe is now in his own housing; working with a landlord willing to help give others a second chance.

Gerriann Armstrong, program manager of The Way Out Center, couldn’t hide her excitement for Joe.

“Today we reduced homelessness in our community by one more person. It’s a good day!”
