Appreciating the basic things in life
For many people, having a warm house, clean clothes, a shower, and working utilities are things we take for granted. However, these luxuries are not always enjoyed by fellow neighbors.
Recently, two teenage sisters were brought to Evangeline’s House by law enforcement. They lacked the basics in life: food, clean clothes, electricity in their parents' home, and attended school off and on.
Upon walking into the door at Evangeline’s House, they were met with smiling faces and concern for their condition. The first things both sisters requested were a shower and food to eat!
Following their showers, they were given clean pajamas and clothes. Feeling refreshed from their showers, the two young teens enjoyed what seemed like their first meal in days or a week. They scarfed down their meals in no time and asked for more. When finished, they said “thank you,” as that was the first good meal they had in a while.
As they prepared for bed, the staff offered each of the girls their own rooms, but they chose to share a room. They liked their clean beds with clean blankets and felt more comfortable remaining together.
While at Evangeline’s House, one of the girls had a birthday. The staff celebrated this special day with her by providing gifts and making cupcakes. During their stay, both girls opened up about what they had experienced at home. It was horrible.
Recently, the sisters went to a foster home together where they will continue to get the help they need while attending school regularly.
