General Volunteer requirements

Mission Statement:  The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church.  Its message is based on the Bible.  Its ministry is motivated by the love of God.  Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Preliminary Requirements:

Each volunteer must take the following steps in order to volunteer with The Salvation Army Spokane.

  1. Attend a Salvation Army Spokane Orientation
  2. Complete initial “Volunteer Welcome Page” with the following information:
  1. Complete Volunteer emergency contact page
  2. Receive email from our Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) regarding background check
  3. Click on the background check link and follow the instructions to complete the fillable PDF.
  4. Be sure to click on submit when you’re done.
  5. The Background check is reviewed.  If there is a criminal history that needs to be investigated our review board at Divisional Headquarters will decide whether the criminal history disqualifies you from serving.
  6. Volunteers are then sent electronic document to sign electronically.  These documents include:
  1. The Volunteer Coordinator receives an email and counter-signs these documents electronically.
  2. Volunteer receives an email from Volunteer Coordinator with link to “Online ‘Protect the Mission’ training.”

Additional Preliminary Requirements for working with children:

  1. Provide two references – one professional, one personal.  These people will be called and interviewed.
  2. Schedule an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator or A Program Head
  3. Complete “Protect the Mission” in-person Training.
  4. Complete the online training modules below in addition to “Know Your Policies:”
