Annual Fund Manager


STATUS:                               FULL TIME, HOURLY, NON-EXEMPT

SCOPE OF POSITION: The Annual Fund Manager plays an integral role in the success of the Spokane Citadel’s fundraising efforts, specifically through ongoing relationship management, strategic communication plans, stewardship efforts and gift cultivation and solicitation activities. This individual will manage an assigned caseload of qualified, mid-level donors who contribute $250 - $4,999 with the purpose of deepening each donor relationship and increasing each donor’s annual contribution to the Spokane Citadel. The Annual Fund Manager will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward mid-level donors, acting as the primary contact between The Army and the assigned donor. 


  • Must embrace, support and reflect well on The Salvation Army’s mission and values through one’s professional responsibilities and behavior at all times
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience; prefer two years of experience in a non-profit fundraising role with a proven track record of success
  • Effective interpersonal, conversational and presentation skills, demonstrating emotional intelligence, situational awareness, excellent writing abilities and strong case development and pitching skills
  • Proven expertise in developing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals, including executives, leadership volunteers and wealthy donors, as well as internal stakeholders and leadership
  • Effective problem solving, think strategically and creatively, and take initiative with a good follow through
  • Team player with an ability to collaborate effectively with officers, staff and volunteers for successful achievement of position and department goals
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment without admin support
  • Be highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities with professionalism and grace
  • Must maintain good documentation through contact reports and activity tracking, using the Portfolio database according to Salvation Army protocols.

  • The Annual Fund Manager establishes, manages, and maximizes a mid-level donor caseload of 75-100 individuals. This will include meeting or exceeding individual fundraising goals and developing and executing personalized donor strategies to effectively steward, educate, cultivate and solicit gifts from mid-level donors each fiscal year.There will be an emphasis on gifts in the $250 - $4,999 range. If a donor has potential or indicates an interest in a gift of $5,000 or more, the Annual Fund Manager partners with the Director of Donor Relations on a seamless transition of this donor to the Director of Donor Relations’ caseload.
  • Works diligently to meet agreed upon monthly and annual activity and income production goals and is purposeful about each communication and the desired outcome for each activity.
  • Meets regularly with supervisor to discuss and refine caseload plans, donor strategies, to track progress, to receive coaching, and to keep open lines of communication.
  • Participates in recommended professional trainings as budget allows, conference calls with other development staff, conference kindred sessions and other professional development opportunities.
  • Works in close conjunction with development colleagues, pursuing and contributing to harmonious collaboration between direct marketing, social media, foundation, corporation, major gift and planned giving staff for optimal integrated strategies.
  • Works in close collaboration with officers, executive, program, finance, development and graphic design / communications, and admin support staff to develop a portfolio of inspiring giving opportunities that meet the needs of the Spokane Citadel and the Spokane community.Presents these opportunities to donors matching donor interests with the Spokane Citadel’s funding priorities.
  • In second year, will establish, recruit, engage and manage an Echelon board (young professional’s group) for the Spokane Citadel.Maximizes this opportunity to build networks and engage connected, civic minded young-professionals in the mission of The Salvation Army in the Spokane community.
  • Develops, manages and coordinates follow up for monthly opportunity visit program to engage donors in the work of the Spokane Citadel. Collaborates with the Advisory Board to promote and recruit participants in the opportunity visit program with the intention of expanding the Spokane Citadel’s network and influence in the community.
  • Leads donor acknowledgement process, personally managing thank you calls to all $100+ donors not assigned to an alternative staff.Optimizes this opportunity to qualify potential donors and develop longstanding, trusted relationships with mid-level donors. Develops and implements on-going annual activities to reengage lapsed donors, particularly donors who gave the previous fiscal year, but have yet to contribute in the current fiscal year.
  • Has a deep understanding of the Spokane Citadel’s direct marketing strategies and practices as majority of the mid-level donors will come from this fundraising effort. Regularly collaborates with the Director of Development on ways to maximize direct marketing efforts to strengthen mid-level donor relationships.
  • Supports and contributes to, as requested, overall territorial policies, business practices and strategies to continually increase fundraising revenue and program growth.
  • Keeps management apprised of all significant interactions, inputting contact reports to the Portfolio donor database system as required, sharing a continually updated itinerary, fulfilling all monthly and other reporting requirements, and consulting with leadership when needed to understand organizational priorities, to develop strategies that benefit both donor and the Army and to troubleshoot challenging situations.
  • Stays driven toward goals and focused on caseload, but makes effective use of volunteerism opportunities, events and other initiatives to engage with assigned donors, to bring them closer to the Army, and to deepen their awareness of the impact of our work, especially in areas of interest to them. Participates in such opportunities alongside caseload constituents.
  • Manages all office systems related to Annual Fund Manager duties, including maintaining updated Portfolio donor files, tracking spreadsheets, correspondence and gift acknowledgments, etc., in keeping with department policies and procedures. Documents all donor interactions through Portfolio contact reports and according to established business practices. Carries out any office and computer-related tasks important to fulfilling the goals of the position.
  • Ensures excellent customer service is provided to donors through accessibility to staff and leadership (as granted), timely responsiveness, quality in all interactions and personalized communications.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor, Officers and/or Divisional Director of Development

  • Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting program demands

SALly's House Child Caregivers (Full Time, Part time and Extra On-Call Positions)

Caregivers working in Sally's House are caring for children in emergency situations for children 2 to 12 years of age that are removed from their home due to abuse, neglect, abandonment or criminal activity. They provide a caring, safe and loving home for up to 20 children at one time.  

Candidates should be at least 21 years of age. Minimum of 12 Months of paid/volunteer experience caring for or supervising children. Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Additional education in the field is preferred. Must be able to successfully pass a DSHS and Salvation Army criminal history background check.



Early Childhood ministry attendant (Part-Time, Extra On-Call as needed)

SCOPE OF POSITION: Care for Children in the Nursery during Corps services.  


  • Supervision of children at all times.
  • Provide a safe and pleasant environment for the children.
  • Provide organized games, stories, crafts as time or number of children allows.
  • Inventory and maintain Nursery supplies. Let the Corps Officer know when supplies are needed.
  • Change soiled linens as needed. Place soiled linens in a plastic garbage bag and give to the Corps Officer to be cleaned.
  • Sanitize toys once a month.
  • Feed and change babies/toddlers as needed.
  • Maintain neat and orderly Nursery and rooms. (I.E. pick up all toys, put away all craft projects, clear and wipe all tables, if needed)
  • The age group for children to be in the Nursery is 0-4 years. Older children age 5 and older should not be in the Nursery unless they have permission to be there. Children age 3-4 can be excused to attend Junior Church if they have one scheduled for that Sunday.
  • Please do not let children leave the Nursery until Parents or the person who they came with comes to pick them up. Children should not be allowed to leave the Nursery by themselves under any circumstances.
